The story behind
Radiohead recorded Nice Dream in 1994, as part of their second studio album The Bends. The song was released in March 1995, along with other tracks that marked a shift in their sound. The producer John Leckie wanted something that reminded one of My Sweet Lord by George Harrison, using images such as a "good angel" or a "garden". But when Thom Yorke found out that Leckie had used violin on a Ride album, rivals of Radiohead in Oxford, they removed those instruments from the process. The lyrics of Nice Dream are based on a book by Kurt Vonnegut, where a substance freezes the water of the planet. Yorke was inspired by that to write lines such as "the sea would electrocute us all". The song was recorded in several studios, including RAK and Abbey Road, and became part of a series of episodes of How I Met Your Mother. ↓ Skip to chordsIntro 1
