Fun facts

George Harrison wrote «My Sweet Lord» in 1970, before he left the Beatles. It was his first solo song, and the one that sold the most in the UK that year. He recorded it in a London studio, and first gave it to Billy Preston, his friend from Apple Records. He then released it on the album All Things Must Pass, which came out in November of that year. The song was an international hit, reaching the top of the charts in several countries.

The story behind

George Harrison wrote My Sweet Lord in December 1969, during a tour in Denmark with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton. The song was born in a theater room, while improvising chords on the guitar and mixing phrases from Aleluya with Hare Krishna. The idea developed aloud, with the chorus formed between Preston, Ringo Starr and others. The recording included Phil Spector and marked the debut of the slide guitar technique on a Harrison album. It was released as the first single in 1971, reached number one in several countries and became the best-selling single in the UK that year. The song was also re-recorded in 2000 and reached number one again.
