The story behind
Much Too Much, according to DoReSol
With a duration of 2 minutes and 46 seconds, Much Too Much is a piece that, although brief, condenses the characteristic energy of The Who. It was produced by Shel Talmy and included on their debut album, My Generation. This album, released in the United Kingdom in December 1965 by Brunswick Records and in Australia by Festival Records, reached the United States in April 1966 under the title The Who Sings My Generation, with a slightly modified cover and song list by Decca Records.
The recording of My Generation took place shortly after the success of singles such as «I Can't Explain» and «My Generation». The band, composed of Roger Daltrey on vocals, Pete Townshend on guitar, John Entwistle on bass, and Keith Moon on drums, also featured session musician Nicky Hopkins on piano. Despite the energy they conveyed, the members of The Who themselves felt this album was a rushed job that did not fully reflect their live performances, known for their vibrant shows and instrument destruction.
