The story behind
Movin’ On, according to DoReSol
When Blur embarked on the recording of their fifth studio album, self-titled, they decided to take a significant turn in their sound. After the experience of The Great Escape, which generated some internal tension and media criticism, guitarist Graham Coxon proposed exploring influences from American indie rock, such as those of the band Pavement. This change of direction was reflected in music that, according to drummer Dave Rowntree, became more intense and emotional. The recording sessions took place in London and the Icelandic capital, Reykjavík.
The band, initially known as Seymour in Colchester, Essex, in the late 80s, consisted of Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James, and Dave Rowntree. It was in 1989 that the label Food Records suggested a more direct and catchy name: Blur. Their first work, Leisure (1991), coincided with the "Madchester" scene, but the band soon sought its own identity. Albarn, with a clear vision, pushed for a sound that reflected British culture, distancing themselves from the influence of American grunge. Albums like Modern Life Is Rubbish (1993) marked the beginning of this ironic exploration of life in Britain, laying the groundwork for what would become the Britpop phenomenon.
