The story behind
The Beatles' version of Money (That's What I Want) is an example of how to take an existing song and put your own stamp on it. Originally a Don track, this rendition was included on their second album, With The Beatles, released in the United Kingdom on 22 November 1963. The recording was produced by George Martin, with sound engineering handled by several professionals, including Richard Langham, Norman Smith, Geoff Emerick, and A. B. Lincoln. The duration of this piece is 2:50.
This album, With The Beatles, arrived eight months after their debut work, Please Please Me. The record featured a mix of their own compositions, seven by Lennon–McCartney and one by George Harrison, "Don't Bother Me," which was his first solo-recorded composition. Additionally, they included six covers of rock and roll and R&B hits from Motown, among which was Money (That's What I Want). The cover photograph, taken by Robert Freeman, became a benchmark that many other musical groups would imitate. Interestingly, the Australian edition of the album had a different cover, something that did not please the band.
