The story behind
There are songs that, when played, invite you on a journey through details that make them unique. *All My Loving*, for example, has that quality. If you look at the bass line, you'll notice that Paul McCartney built it with a constant movement, almost like a walker, which gives the song a sense of continuous progression. On the other hand, John Lennon's rhythm guitar uses triplet strums that are reminiscent of other hits of the era, such as *Da Doo Ron Ron*. And to round it off, George Harrison added a guitar solo with a style that evokes country and western music, influenced by artists like Chet Atkins. It's interesting to think that McCartney conceived the lyrics as if they were a poem, and that the idea of writing the words first and then the music was a novelty for him in this piece, something he didn't repeat frequently.
This song, which is part of the 1963 album *With the Beatles*, was recorded on July 30 of that same year at EMI Studios in London. Although it was not officially released as a single in the United Kingdom or the United States, it received extensive radio play. In Canada, however, it did reach number one. The recording took eleven takes, with three overdubs added later. A slightly different version, with a hi-hat intro not found in other mixes, appeared on the German edition of the album. *All My Loving* also had the honor of being the song with which The Beatles opened their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, a moment watched by over 73 million people.
