The story behind
That initial energy you feel when playing It Won’t Be Long has a contagious momentum, almost like a race. The song starts with an urgency that invites you to follow it immediately. It’s one of those pieces that, although brief, leaves a mark for its strength and direct structure. The duo John Lennon and Paul McCartney were behind the composition, and you can feel that spark that characterized many of their creations.
This track saw the light of day as part of the album With The Beatles, released in the United Kingdom on November 22, 1963. It was an album that arrived just eight months after their first work, Please Please Me. The production was handled by George Martin, who oversaw the recording sessions along with engineers like Richard Langham and Norman Smith. The album combined original compositions, including the first solo piece recorded by George Harrison, "Don't Bother Me", with covers of rock and roll and R&B songs. Curiously, from those same sessions also came the single "I Want to Hold Your Hand" with "This Boy" on the B-side. The iconic cover photograph, which has been replicated by other groups, was the work of fashion photographer Robert Freeman.
