The story behind

The song Mentira…, with its duration of 4:37, is from the debut album of Manu Chao, titled Clandestino, released in 1998. This work was conceived at a particular moment for the artist, following the dissolution of his previous band. What's interesting about the recording of Clandestino is that a large part was done self-sufficiently, using a laptop, which the musician himself called Estudio Clandestino. The album also incorporates speech fragments, such as one from Subcomandante Marcos, and became a benchmark, being included in lists like 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and recognized by Rolling Stone magazine in France and globally. Manu Chao, whose full name is José Manuel Arturo Tomás Chao Ortega, was born in Paris in 1961, with Spanish roots. His music is a melting pot of languages, singing in French, Spanish, English, and Portuguese, among others. Before his solo career, which began in 1995, he was part of bands like Hot Pants and Los Carayos. In 1987, along with his brother Antoine Chao and other musicians, he founded Mano Negra, a group that achieved great popularity, especially in Europe and Latin America. After the separation of Mano Negra, Manu Chao has continued touring with his band Radio Bemba. His work often reflects his political and social convictions, addressing themes such as immigration and city life, partly influenced by his family history and his close environment. He currently resides in Barcelona.
