The story behind
Mátate Teté, according to DoReSol
The raw energy of Mátate Teté, one of the tracks that opens Molotov's first album, ¿Dónde jugarán las niñas?, is built on a musical and lyrical foundation that sought to shake things up. Composed by Miguel Angel Huidobro Preciado, this song, with a duration of 4 minutes and 31 seconds, presents itself as a direct shout, aligning with the band's intention to address complex and often taboo subjects, in a way that recalls the power of Rage Against the Machine.
This initial work by Molotov, released in 1997, was a bold statement from its inception. The production was handled by Gustavo Santaolalla and Aníbal Kerpel, who helped shape a sound that, despite its international success and critical acclaim, was not without controversy. The album's cover and lyrical content generated debate, reflecting a strong critique of the Mexican political landscape of the time. The album, initially released in Mexico by Universal Music Group, soon expanded to the rest of the world in April of the same year. This record, in general, received a nomination in 1998 for the Latin Grammy Awards in the category of "Best Latin Alternative Rock Album".
