The story behind

Lobo bobo, according to DoReSol

The song Lobo Bobo, with music by Carlos Lyra and lyrics by Ronaldo Bôscoli, originated from a conversation that Bôscoli had with André Midani, who headed the commercial department of the Odeon record label. Midani suggested to Bôscoli that he pay attention to the rock of Celly and Tony Campelo, as their themes connected better with young audiences and, consequently, generated more sales. Bôscoli, reflecting on this, set out to write lyrics with a mischievous tone that strayed from the usual in the bossa nova of the time, which tended to be more innocent and focused on themes like boats and flowers. The result was a piece that, with its lyrics and approach, sought to break away from the established norms.

This recording, released in 1959 on João Gilberto's debut album Chega de Saudade, featured arrangements and production by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Aloísio de Oliveira. João Gilberto's version became a benchmark of bossa nova, and the song has been performed by a variety of artists. One of the most notable versions is by Wilson Simonal, who gave it a distinctive rhythmic and melodic twist, altering the word accents to create greater movement. Simonal's interpretation fused elements of bossa nova and jazz with a sensibility closer to rock, showcasing his unique style. The last time Simonal recorded this song was for the live album Casa da Bossa in 1997, in a duet with Sandra de Sá.
