This track from La Dulzura feels like a journey where the rhythm never lets go. The bass and percussion lay down a pattern that repeats, but with an unexpected twist that makes it move differently from the usual in Puerto Rican reggae. There’s a moment when the horns come in with a phrasing that contrasts just as the groove seems to settle, giving it that air of conversation between the band and the listener. The lyrics, for their part, play with everyday images turned into metaphors, as if each verse were a detail only those who’ve lived that scene recognize instantly.

They recorded it in the middle of a tour that began in 2007, when they had been playing the same songs in different venues for months. Rodríguez and the team decided that, instead of polishing each track in the studio, they would let time and the audience shape the sound. By the time they came to record La Dulzura in 2010, they already had versions that had changed so much they barely resembled the originals. Before officially releasing it, they uploaded some to the internet, including this one, which ended up being one of the most resonant. The independent label, La Mafafa, was born out of that need to avoid intermediaries at a time when record labels were seeking less risk and more control.
