Fun facts

Rage Against the Machine released "Know Your Enemy" as part of their album. The song stood out for its direct rhythm and a voice that immediately enters. In the bridge, Maynard James Keenan of Tool joined with his voice, something that was not common. Stephen Perkins, the drummer of Jane's Addiction, also appeared with additional percussion. Although it was not released as a single, the song received a lot of attention on the radio before 1993.

The story behind

Rage Against the Machine recorded "Know Your Enemy" in 1992, as part of their first album. The song begins with a fast bass riff, played on an acoustic bass. The rhythm moves between a moderate tempo and a more accelerated one, with a guitar sound that recalls the synthesizers of the 70s. In the bridge, Maynard James Keenan sings a voice that feels like a whisper, while Tom Morello uses a pedal effect to make his guitar sound like a synthesizer. The lyrics speak of distrust toward authorities, of how the government promotes freedom but acts oppressively. There is a repetitive chorus that ends with a phrase that is repeated several times: "All of which are American dreams". The song ends with a protest noise, as if the sound itself were a form of rebellion.
