The story behind
Joy of a Toy, according to DoReSol
The song Joy of a Toy, with its 3:04 duration, is part of Roxette's debut album, Pearls of Passion. This album was originally released on cassette and vinyl in Scandinavia and Canada in late 1986. Later, in 1997, it was reissued on CD including previously unreleased bonus material, and had another remastering in 2009.
Roxette is the Swedish duo composed of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Before joining, both already had established artistic careers in their country. Per Gessle, in particular, had achieved great commercial success with his previous band, Gyllene Tider, which released three number-one albums in Sweden in the early eighties. After that band's dissolution in 1984, Gessle's solo albums did not reach the same level of impact. The recording of Pearls of Passion featured engineering by Alar Suurna and Robert Wellerfors, under the production of Clarence Öfwerman.
