The story behind

I’m a Man, according to DoReSol

When you dive into The Who's *I'm a Man*, you encounter a raw energy that seems to be born directly from the rehearsal room. The recording, which barely lasts 3:23, was produced by Shel Talmy and feels like a captured instant, without too many embellishments. It's part of that first album, My Generation, which was released in the UK in late 1965. What's interesting is that the band themselves felt that this album, recorded alongside singles that were already making waves like *I Can't Explain* and *My Generation* itself, was a bit rushed. Perhaps that's why, instead of polishing every detail in the studio, they let the power of their live sound seep into the tapes.

This track, originally released in the UK on December 3, 1965, under the Brunswick Records label and in Australia with Festival Records, arrived in the United States a little later, in April 1966, under the name The Who Sings My Generation and with a different cover. Beyond the main members —Roger Daltrey on vocals, Pete Townshend on guitar, John Entwistle on bass, and Keith Moon on drums—, the album also featured the participation of session musician Nicky Hopkins on piano, adding additional textures to that characteristic sound base of The Who.
