The story behind
The song *I Can’t Be With You* by The Cranberries, with its duration of 3:08, is included in the band's second studio album, titled No Need to Argue. This work, released in October 1994, became the most commercially successful for the Irish group, reaching sales of over 17 million copies worldwide by 2014. The overall sound of No Need to Argue is perceived as more intense and somber compared to their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?. This change was manifested in some tracks with a greater presence of distortion and high volume, reflecting the experience gained by drummer Fergal Lawler and the rest of the band after two years of intense touring. The production of this album was handled by Julie Gardner and Stephen Street, who also served as recording engineers alongside Julie Gardner.
Formed in Limerick in 1989, The Cranberries solidified with Dolores O'Riordan on vocals, Noel Hogan on guitar, Mike Hogan on bass, and Fergal Lawler on drums. While primarily associated with alternative rock, their music fuses elements of indie pop, post-punk, Irish folk, and pop rock. Their leap to international fame came with their first record, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, which sold over five million units in the United States alone. The band experienced great success in the 1990s, with over 15 million albums sold in the United States and four albums within the top 20 of the Billboard 200. After a period of inactivity, they reunited for tours across North America, Latin America, and Europe in the early 2010s, releasing their sixth album, Roses, in 2012.
