The story behind

When you encounter Hold Me Tight, you'll likely notice it has a particular energy, almost like a non-stop engine. The song was recorded at EMI Studios in London on September 12, 1963, and its duration is 2 minutes and 32 seconds. It was primarily composed by Paul McCartney in 1961, although John Lennon is also credited as a co-writer.

The story of this piece is interesting: the Beatles attempted to record it for their first album, Please Please Me, but the thirteen takes they did were not considered good enough, and the tape was discarded. Seven months later, in a second attempt, they recorded nine more takes. The version we hear on With the Beatles is an edit of the sixth and ninth takes from this second session, sped up by a semitone to reach the key of F major. Despite being a song that was part of their live repertoire until 1963, both McCartney and Lennon later expressed an unenthusiastic opinion about it. McCartney described it as a "work song" he didn't remember much about, and Lennon called it "pretty poor".
