The story behind
a-ha recorded Hunting High and Low in 1984 and 1985 at Eel Pie Studios, a studio in Twickenham, London. The album was released in June 1985 in Norway and the United States, and later in the United Kingdom and Europe in October. It was a commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in many countries. It was produced by Tony Mansfield, John Ratcliff and Alan Tarney.
From Hunting High and Low they released five singles. The first was Take On Me, which they recorded in 1984 and re-recorded for the album. The video was made with a director who had already worked with other big names, but the one for a-ha was different: a mix of live action and animation. The single was released in the United States in July 1985 and reached number one on Billboard, spent 27 weeks on the chart and was the tenth best-selling single of the year. In the United Kingdom it reached second place and in Norway it reached number one.
