The story behind

The song Heat on the Street, with its 3:52 duration, is included on the album …But Seriously, released in the United Kingdom on November 20, 1989, by Virgin Records and in the United States by Atlantic Records. This record marked a shift towards deeper lyrical themes, addressing socioeconomic and political issues, in contrast to the more danceable focus of his previous album, No Jacket Required from 1985. After finishing his touring commitments with the band Genesis in 1987, the group entered a four-year period of inactivity, during which Phil Collins participated in the film Buster (1988). By the spring of 1989, Collins had already composed the material for this new solo project. Philip David Charles Collins, born in Chiswick, England, on January 31, 1951, is a prominent figure in rock music, recognized for his activity and success as a singer, songwriter, drummer, and pianist. Between 1984 and 1989, his songs reached the top of the US Billboard Top 100 eight times, seven of them as a solo artist and one with Genesis. He was the lead vocalist for the British group Genesis between 1970 and 1996, maintaining sporadic collaborations since 2007. His compositions often explore heartbreak, personal experiences, and drug use. His solo career sales, according to 2002 Atlantic Records data, exceed 150 million records worldwide. His connection with music dates back to his childhood, when he received a toy drum kit for Christmas, sparking an interest that would lead him to develop his own musical notation system while learning alongside television and radio. His professional training began at fourteen at the Barbara Speake Stage School, where he also started as an actor and model, obtaining notable roles in productions such as Oliver!, The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
