The story behind

What makes Giorgio by Moroder such a particular piece is the way Daft Punk decided to tell a story. Instead of composing a traditional melody, they invited the electronic music pioneer, Giorgio Moroder, to share his own journey. The song is built around an extensive monologue where he narrates his life and musical career. The idea was to create a kind of sonic documentary, using fragments of a deep interview to bring the piece to life. Daft Punk conceived this as a metaphor for musical freedom, seeing Moroder's exploration of genres and tastes as a reflection of the evolution of music itself. The sound accompanying his words, a distinctive arpeggio, was conceived in the early album test sessions, experimenting with different synthesizers to achieve that unique texture.

The recording of this monologue had a very particular focus. Giorgio Moroder found himself in the studio in front of a variety of microphones, each with a history spanning from the 60s to the 21st century. The intention was for each microphone to represent the different decades of his life, a detail that, while subtle to the average listener, was fundamental to Thomas Bangalter. The vocal session extended for two days, with Nile Rodgers also present. Moroder, who did not directly participate in the composition, learned of the final result months before the album's release. Upon hearing the complete song, he felt it evoked the essence of his own creations, especially his work on I Feel Love. The recording of Random Access Memories, the album to which Giorgio by Moroder belongs, took place between 2008 and 2012 in various studios in California and France, seeking a sound that paid homage to American music of the late 70s and early 80s.
