Getting There (interlude)

This short musical piece, Getting There (interlude), offers a glimpse into the essence of Olivia Dean's debut studio album, titled Messy. Released in 2023, this record aimed to capture the complexity and rawness of young adult life, an idea that resonated from the outset. In fact, the album, which was initially going to be called Between Islands, alluding to her roots, ultimately adopted the title Messy to more faithfully reflect the honesty and inherent disarray of her creations. The track Getting There (interlude), lasting just 1 minute and 47 seconds, serves as an interlude that sets the stage for the full album experience.

The recording of Messy featured the involvement of Aqualung, who was responsible not only for production but also for recording engineering alongside Daniel Moyler and James Pinfield-Wells. The mixing duties fell to Nathan Boddy. This album, released through EMI Records, managed to reach fourth place on the UK Albums Chart and earned a silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry. Furthermore, in 2023, Messy was considered for the prestigious Mercury Prize.
