The story behind

galopera, according to DoReSol

If there's one song that seems to have a life of its own, it's Galopera. No matter who sings it or in what language: the fast-paced rhythm, that catchy melody and the festive air it carries end up imposing itself. What began as a Paraguayan galope became a phenomenon that crossed borders, languages and decades without losing an ounce of its energy. It's not just a song, but a bridge between cultures, a piece that reinvents itself every time someone picks it up and makes it their own.

The story behind Galopera is as curious as its sound. Composer Mauricio Cardozo Ocampo wrote it in 1958, but it wasn't until the group Los Paraguayos recorded it that same year that the song began to resonate. However, the real twist came when Donizeti took it to the stage: they say he was the first to hold the final note for sixteen measures, a detail that gave his performance an unmistakable seal. Later, Perla, the Paraguayan singer based in Brazil, put her own mark on it, and not long after, Chitãozinho & Xororó included it in their repertoire, taking it to another level. Even in 2015, Bruno Sutter gave it an unexpected twist by turning it into heavy metal, proving that its essence withstands any transformation. And although in 1957 the Italian Natalino Otto had already recorded a song with the same name in Italian, Cardozo Ocampo's Galopera remained a universe apart, with versions in Portuguese, German and even sertanejo that gave it even more strength.
