The story behind

Mary MacGregor released a song called For a While that lasts 2:52. It was part of her first album, Torn Between Two Lovers, released in 1976. The album reached number 17 on the Billboard 200. Three singles were released from that album, and all managed to enter the Country and Hot 100 charts. The song For a While was a hit, reaching the top of the pop and adult contemporary charts. In a 1981 review, Robert Christgau gave it a "C" rating and commented that it was significant that Peter Yarrow's first commercial success of the year was a song that reminded Olivia Newton-John, although the artist admitted she got into trouble.
