The story behind
Florecita rockera, according to DoReSol
The first time I heard Florecita rockera, I had the feeling that there was something more to it than just a simple rock song. It's not just the rhythm that hooks you from the first few seconds, nor even the lyrics that play with everyday images of Bogotá mixed with a rebellious air. What truly sets this song apart is that balance between the raw and the poetic, as if the band had captured in the Audiovisión studio that exact moment when the city pulses strongly and the guitar sounds just where it should. In just two minutes and fifty-nine seconds, the track conveys an energy that doesn't fade with time, something few mid-90s singles managed to keep in the collective memory.
Recorded in Bogotá during October 1995 as part of the album El Dorado, the song reached position 56 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks that same year and stayed there for two weeks. It wasn't a massive hit, but it resonated enough that, more than twenty years later, the band decided to rework it with Goyo from ChobQuibTown and Andrea from Monsieur Periné, keeping intact that essence that makes it sound fresh even now. The album, produced by Federico López and released by Sony, ended up being a turning point for Aterciopelados, taking them to recognition that went beyond Colombia's borders and placing them on lists like Al Borde, where El Dorado is featured among the 250 most important albums of Ibero-American rock according to its 2006 edition.
