The story behind

On the streets of Costa Rica sounds like a journey through time: the drums of Oscar Moro set the pace with a cadence that intertwines with the keyboard of Charly García, while the bass and guitar weave a tapestry of sounds that seem to float between the dreamlike and the urban. It is not a song that merely plays: it is a landscape unfolding. The track is built on layers of synthesizer and piano that converse with a rhythm that resists being fully contained, as if the melody advanced in a meter that refuses to be straight. There is something in that tension between structure and freedom that makes each time you listen, you feel you are hearing something that never repeats the same way.Recorded at Ion Studios in 1977, this piece emerged at a time when La Máquina was exploring more ambitious territories than in their debut album. The album Películas, where it is included, reflects that search: the arrangements are more elaborate, almost cinematic, as if each song were a scene. The design by Juan Oreste Gatti lends a visual air that reinforces that narrative idea. It is no coincidence that in 2007, Rolling Stone Argentina placed it on their list of the best national rock albums. But beyond the accolades, what endures is that feeling that the song exists in a place between the real and the imagined, as if Costa Rica were merely the pretext to build something much greater.
