Alejandro Sanz recorded it in 1995 as part of 3, his third studio album, but in reality that record was what catapulted him beyond Spain’s borders. The song, with its four minutes and forty seconds of duration, became one of the pillars of the album, a work that not only solidified his style —a blend of pop, flamenco and ballad— but also got it played on radios across Europe and Latin America. Interestingly, 3 was not confined to a single language: the artist also adapted it into Portuguese and Italian, something uncommon at the time. Years later, in 2006, the album was reissued with bonus material, but Ellos son así remained the same: true to its essence, without needing any touch-ups.
