The story behind
Elle est comme les étoiles, according to DoReSol
The song “Elle Est Comme Les Etoiles,” which is 4:14 long, is part of Desireless’s debut French-language album, titled *François*. This album was originally released in 1989 and reissued in 2001. The album’s title is a tribute to François Tabah, a French composer whom Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop (Desireless’s real name) met in 1985 and with whom she shared eighteen years of her life. Although the album *François* peaked at number 53 on the charts, its impact was largely driven by the massive success of the single “Voyage, Voyage.” Released in 1986, the track became a number one hit on numerous singles charts across Europe and Asia, selling over five million copies and establishing itself as an instant club hit. A notable version of this song was the “Britmix,” a 1988 remix by P. Hammond and P. Waterman. The single “Voyage, Voyage,” now released under the name Desireless, achieved prominent positions on European charts, including in Russia.
The career of Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop, born on December 25, 1952, is as unique as her music. Before pursuing a singing career, she explored the world of fashion design and took several trips to India in 1980. It was in 1984 that she met producer Jean-Michel Rivat, marking the beginning of their musical collaboration. Prior to the release of *Voyage, Voyage* as *Desireless*, Claudie had already explored the music scene as part of “Air 89,” with singles such as “Chercher l’Amour Fou” and “Qui Peut Savoir.” After the birth of her daughter in 1990, Claudie took some time away from the music scene. She returned in 1992 with her second album, *I Love You*, on which she took a more active role in composing many of the tracks, exploring a variety of styles. Since then, she has maintained a more personal approach to her music, collaborating with other artists and exploring genres ranging from electronic music, while staying on the fringes of the major music industry structures.
