The story behind
The song *Qui sommes-nous?* emerges from the debut album of Desireless, titled François, originally released in 1989. This discographic work, which later had a reissue in 2001, was conceived at a key moment for the artist. Her best-known single, Voyage, voyage, had already resonated strongly on the charts in Europe and Asia. However, the release of *Qui sommes-nous?* and other tracks under the name "Air" (distinct from the later electro duo) marked a turning point, especially after the success of Voyage, voyage as Desireless. This particular track became a hit in clubs and reached high positions on European charts, even extending to Russia.
Desireless's career, whose real name is Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop, began after a period linked to fashion design and several trips to India in 1980. It was in 1984 that she met producer Jean-Michel Rivat, initiating a musical collaboration. The following year, Claudie joined François Tabah, a French composer with whom she would share 18 years. The album François, released in 1990, bears the name of her partner. That same year, the birth of her daughter led her to take a break from the entertainment world. Subsequently, in 1992, she released her second album, I Love You, where she explored diverse styles and actively participated in the composition of many of the songs. Since then, Desireless has opted for a more personal path in her music, moving away from the massive commercial circuit, and continues to perform and collaborate with other artists, spanning from electronic music to other genres.
