The story behind

The song *El cuadro II* by Héroes del Silencio immerses itself in a sonic atmosphere that fuses elements of gothic rock, pop, and hard rock. This sound, described as introspective and very much of its time, was born from the band's quest to capture in the studio the energy they displayed in their live performances, something they felt they hadn't fully achieved with their previous work, El mar no cesa, released in 1988.

The recording of this second album, Senderos de traición, took place at Kirios Studios in Madrid. The production was handled by Phil Manzanera, and the mixing was done in London at Metropolis Studios, with Keith Bessey as engineer. The result was an album that reached the number one spot on the Spanish charts, marking a milestone for the group. The band, formed by Juan Valdivia on lead guitar, Enrique Bunbury on vocals and rhythm guitar, Joaquín Cardiel on bass, and Pedro Andreu on drums, experienced considerable success not only in Spain but also in Latin America and several European countries such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and Italy. Their lyrics, often ambiguous and profound, and their solid rhythmic foundation, drew from literary influences of authors like William Blake and Charles Baudelaire, and musical influences from bands like Led Zeppelin and The Cult. After a decade of career, the band separated in 1996.
