The story behind
La carta, according to DoReSol
The sonic atmosphere of La carta, a song by Héroes del Silencio, was built in a space of experimentation and exploration. The album to which it belongs, Senderos de traición, was recorded at Kirios Studios in Madrid. The production was handled by Phil Manzanera, who worked for Sound & Management in Zurich. For the mixing, the team moved to Metropolis Studios in London, where Keith Bessey was in charge of sound engineering. This album is perceived as an introspective work, which managed to fuse elements of gothic rock, pop, and hard rock, reflecting the spirit of the era. Influences from bands like The Cult and The Mission are mentioned. Despite the impact of their debut with El mar no cesa in 1988, the band felt that the sound of that first work did not fully capture their live energy, an aspect they sought to refine on this occasion.
Héroes del Silencio, originally from Zaragoza, established themselves as a significant force in Spanish rock. The main lineup featured Juan Valdivia on lead guitar, Enrique Bunbury on vocals and rhythm guitar, Joaquín Cardiel on bass, and Pedro Andreu on drums. Their music was distinguished by lyrics with an ambiguous and transcendental background, accompanied by elaborate arpeggios and a powerful rhythmic base. The members' literary influences included authors such as William Blake and Charles Baudelaire, while in the musical realm they admired groups like Led Zeppelin and The Cult. The band experienced notable success not only in Spain and Latin America but also in European countries such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and Italy. After a twelve-year career that included over a thousand concerts and the sale of millions of records worldwide, Héroes del Silencio disbanded in 1996. Eleven years later, in 2007, they announced a reunion for a commemorative tour that encompassed ten concerts in Spain and America, titled Héroes del Silencio Tour 2007, after which the band definitively dissolved. The duration of La carta is 3:07.
