Interestingly, the album was originally conceived under the title Between Islands, a reference to her British and Caribbean roots. However, during the recording process, the name evolved to Messy, a more faithful reflection of the disordered yet sincere nature of the compositions. The recording engineering for Danger was handled by Tré Jean-Marie, who also collaborated on production with Nathaniel Ledwidge. The mixing task fell to Nathan Boddy.
