The story behind
Danger, according to DoReSol
The song Danger by Olivia Dean, with its 2 minutes and 56 seconds duration, is a piece that invites reflection on the complexity of adult life. It is part of Messy, the British artist's first studio album, released on June 30, 2023, through EMI Records. This record achieved notable success by reaching fourth place on the UK Albums Chart and earning a silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry. Furthermore, in 2023, Messy was considered for the prestigious Mercury Prize.
Before Messy, Olivia Dean had released several EPs between 2019 and 2021, which were well-received. The concept behind her first full-length album was to capture the essence of the "imperfection" that accompanies the early years of adulthood. Interestingly, the album was originally conceived under the title Between Islands, a reference to her British and Caribbean roots. However, during the recording process, the name evolved to Messy, a more faithful reflection of the disordered yet sincere nature of the compositions. The recording engineering for Danger was handled by Tré Jean-Marie, who also collaborated on production with Nathaniel Ledwidge. The mixing task fell to Nathan Boddy.
