The story behind
Soda Stereo wrote Cuando pase el temblor in 1985, a song that was recorded in Buenos Aires. The lyrics are not clear, but that doesn't make it any less intense. It talks about a world of stone, about an earthquake that comes, and about a search among ruins. Gustavo Cerati, the singer, feels between fear and shame, but in the end he affirms that he will find something, something that he will kiss in a temple. The title phrase, despiértame cuando pase el temblor, remains like a promise.
The song was played in all of the band's tours since they released it. In Mexico, the year it came out, there was a big earthquake. Cerati remembered that moment while writing it, although he didn't mention it directly. The song was performed a lot live, and in lists of the best rock songs, it ended up among the top ones.
