The story behind
Cream, according to DoReSol
When you dive into *Cream*, you encounter a song that has that special spark. The recording, which took place in December 1990 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, resulted in a song that blends pop, funk, and even touches of glam rock and R&B. Prince himself, along with the New Power Generation, handled the production and arrangements, creating a distinctive sound that was released as a single in September 1991, taken from his album *Diamonds and Pearls*. The song's duration is just over four minutes, enough time to unfold its energy.
This song marked an important milestone for Prince, as it became his fifth and final number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, remaining at the top for two weeks in November 1991. Furthermore, *Cream* managed to enter the Top 10 in fifteen other countries, reaching prominent positions in places like Australia, Canada, Norway, and Switzerland. The music video accompanying the track was directed by Rebecca Blake. As the B-side, "Horny Pony" was included, a rap song that, according to accounts, was replaced at the last minute on the album by "Gett Off," and which in turn was reused from the "Gett Off" single. There was also an EP with remixes and other pieces inspired by *Cream*, which included some prank phone conversations. In the United Kingdom, the 12-inch single and the maxi CD included "Gangster Glam" as an additional track.
