The story behind
There's something about Como quisiera quererte that feels like a hug in the middle of the rain: Natalia Lafourcade's voice intertwines with the sound of live instruments, without digital retouches to soften the imperfections. The song sounds like a moment captured on the fly, as if the recorder had been there just when the air filled with that melody that can no longer be forgotten. The track is built on a rhythmic foundation that repeats with a cadence uncommon in popular music, yet ends up being addictive, like a heartbeat beating to its own rhythm. They recorded it at Sony Music Mexico's studio over three weeks in late 2024, using analog tape to preserve the warmth of the sound. Lafourcade and Adán Jodorowsky worked side by side, aiming for the album —and this song in particular— to sound like a handmade piece, where each musician contributed from their place without anything sounding forced. The result is a track from Cancionera, her 2025 album, that doesn't seek to impress with virtuosity, but with the honesty of someone who sings because they can't help it.
