The story behind

Chaos B.C., according to DoReSol

Sepultura took an unexpected turn in 1996 with *Chaos B.C.*, a track that sounds as if it were born from a street percussion workshop in Belo Horizonte. This is not just another metal riff: here, samba sneaks in between the drum beats, giving it a rhythm unlike any other song by the band. The fusion of heavy metal with traditional Brazilian sounds was no accident, but the result of working side by side with Carlinhos Brown, who guided the group percussion sections. The outcome is a piece that pulses with the energy of two distinct worlds, yet sounds as if they had always been one.

The track first appeared on the U.S. re-release of Chaos A.D., later in the special edition digipack of Roots, and even in the soundtrack of Mortal Kombat: More Kombat. Clocking in at 5:12, it was recorded by Chris Flam and produced by Roy Mayorga, who would later play in Max Cavalera's band. This song marked the end of an era for Sepultura, as it was the last studio album with Max Cavalera before his departure in 1996. The raw, tribal sound of *Chaos B.C.* not only reflects the band’s quest to explore cultural roots but also their ability to reinvent themselves without losing their essence.
