The story behind

Cariñito de Acapulco, according to DoReSol

In Cariñito de Acapulco, Natalia Lafourcade crafts a sonic journey that breathes the salty air of the coast and the warmth of a Pacific sunset. The song unfolds like a slow waltz, where each note seems to fall with the same natural ease as waves crashing against the sand, but with an unexpected twist: that chorus that repeats like a playful whisper, almost as if Lafourcade's voice were playing hide-and-seek among the chords. There's something in the way the piano and strings intertwine, as if they were embroidering a melody in real time, that gives the piece a sense of listening to something that existed before it was recorded—like the studio was merely witness to its presence. They recorded it in three weeks at the end of 2024, at Sony Music Mexico studios, but not as a cold, calculated process.

Instead, it was a session where the focus was on capturing the exact moment when every musician breathed in unison with her. They did it on analog tape, without digital editing afterward, seeking to preserve that organic texture that only emerges when everyone plays simultaneously, without second takes. Adán Jodorowsky, who had already worked with her on De Todas las Flores, guided that collective energy but left room for Lafourcade to unleash her alter ego, "La Cancionera"—a character that seems to sing from a place where music and memory blend without warning. The result is a song that doesn’t sound like a production, but like a moment frozen in time.
