The story behind
The song *Broadway Hotel* by Al Stewart, with its duration of 3:56, is from the album *Year of the Cat*, released in 1976. This work was produced and mixed by Alan Parsons. The album received a significant sales boost thanks to the lead single, *Year of the Cat*, a piece described as one of those songs about "mysterious women." The record reached the top five positions on the US charts. Another single taken from the album was *On the Border*, which reached number 47 in Canada.
A particularity of Stewart's creative process for this album was that the music and orchestration were completely composed and recorded before he had a title for the songs. He himself mentioned in a radio interview in Canada that he had followed this methodology on six of his albums. For each musical piece, he used to write up to four different versions of the lyrics. The track *Year of the Cat*, for example, has its roots in a song that Stewart composed in 1966, titled *Foot of the Stage*, which already contained lyrics with an anticipated vision.
