The story behind
When you dive into Antología, you encounter a Latin pop ballad that focuses on gratitude for what was learned from a loved one. The song, which is part of the album Pies Descalzos, was written by Shakira herself along with Luis Fernando Ochoa. It is a theme that became a reference for many in Latin America. The recording of this piece took place in 1995, divided between Sonido Azulado Studio in Bogota and Ocean V.U. Studio in Miami. Luis Fernando Ochoa not only co-wrote the song but also handled the production, while the mixing was managed by Juan Antonio Castillo.
Shakira's path to this point was not linear. After signing with Sony Music Colombia in 1990, her debut album, Magia, released in 1991, had modest sales in her native Colombia. Her next album, Peligro (1993), also did not achieve the expected success. This led her to take a two-year break to finish her high school studies. It was in 1994 when she began working on the material that would shape Pies Descalzos, collaborating again with Luis Fernando Ochoa, whom she had met previously. The album, released in 1995 in Colombia and later internationally by Columbia Records, featured eleven songs co-written by her. Antología, released as the fifth single from the album, stands out for its guitar instrumentation and Latin pop style. Although there is no official video for the song, a 2006 live performance in Miami, part of the 'Oral Fixation Tour', has surpassed 170 million views on YouTube since its upload in 2009.
