The story behind

The song All of My Life by Phil Collins, with its 5 minutes and 35 seconds duration, delves into personal themes and reflections on love and relationships. Unlike his previous album, No Jacket Required, which explored more dance-oriented rhythms, this work delved into socioeconomic and political issues, showing a more serious facet in its lyrics. This change in focus was gestated after Collins' tour with Genesis in 1987, a period in which the band entered a four-year hiatus. During this time, Collins also dedicated himself to acting, participating in the film Buster in 1988. By the spring of 1989, he had already shaped the ideas for this new recording project. …But Seriously, the album that includes All of My Life, was released on November 20, 1989, in the United Kingdom through Virgin Records and in the United States by Atlantic Records. The album achieved great commercial success worldwide, topping the charts in the UK for 15 non-consecutive weeks and in the US for four weeks. The career of Philip David Charles Collins, who was born on January 31, 1951, in Chiswick, England, is notable for his activity and success in rock music. As a vocalist, he has topped the US Billboard Top 100 eight times between 1984 and 1989, seven of them as a solo artist and one with Genesis. His tenure with the British group extended from 1970 to 1996, with some sporadic collaborations since 2007. His solo career sales exceed 150 million records globally. His interest in music began at age five when he received a toy drum kit, and he developed his own system for reading and writing music, as he did not learn conventional notation. His formal training began at age fourteen at the Barbara Speake Stage School, where he also explored acting and modeling, obtaining important roles in productions such as Oliver!, The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
