I need an easy friend
I do ... with an ear to lend
I do ... think you fit this shoe
I do ... won't you have a clue
I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free
I do
I'm standing in your line
I do ... hope you have the time
I do ... pick a number too
I do ... keep a date with you
I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
Free
I do
I need an easy friend
I do ... with an ear to lend
I do ... think you fit this shoe
I do ... won't you have a clue
I'll take advantage while
You hang me out to dry
But I can't see you every night
But I can't see you every night
Free
I do
I do
I do

Nirvana wrote About a Girl in 1988, before the band was famous. The song was recorded in December of that year in Seattle, with producer Jack Endino. It was the third track on the album Bleach, released in 1989. Although the band was part of the grunge movement, the song had a more pop sound, something Cobain didn't want to show at first. It took him some time to accept it, but in the end he included it. The lyrics talk about a complicated relationship with a girl named Tracy, his girlfriend at the time. She asked him why he had never written a song about her, and he replied that it was about her. The song reflects the conflicts in the relationship, such as the fact that Cobain didn't want to work or do housework. Sometimes he threatened to leave, but in the end he stayed. The acoustic version they recorded in 1993, during MTV Unplugged, became the most well-known.
