OneRepublic

OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in 2002, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by singer Ryan Tedder and guitarist Zach Filkins. The band achieved commercial success on Myspace as an artist without a record label to back them up. In late 2003, after OneRepublic played at a show in the Los Angeles area, a number of record labels approached them with interest, but ultimately, OneRepublic signed with Velvet Hammer, a record company subsidiary of Columbia Records. They made their first album with producer Greg Wells during the summer and fall of 2005 at his Rocket Carousel studio, in Culver City, California. The album was originally scheduled for release on June 6, 2006, but the group was dropped by Columbia two months prior, so the album was never released. The first single from that album, Apologize, was released on April 30, 2006 on Myspace, where it received some recognition, becoming their first number one on the charts of that site.
