Jaime Roos

Jaime Roos is a Uruguayan musician whose work is nourished by the streets of Montevideo and a melting pot of influences ranging from candombe and murga to the Beatles and rock. He was born in the Barrio Sur of the capital, a place that resonates in his music, evoking the sounds of drums and the atmosphere of carnival. His sound is a unique fusion that combines rock with rhythms as Uruguayan as milonga, tango, and, of course, candombe, creating an unmistakable sonic identity that has resonated both in his country and beyond its borders.

In the late 1960s, Roos began his professional path, participating in various groups. A turning point came in mid-1974, when he joined Patria Libre, a group where he contributed his talent on bass and musical arrangements. Shortly after, in 1975, he traveled to Paris, a city that would become the stage for the beginnings of his solo career. It was there that he recorded the first tracks that would later form his debut album, Candombe del 31, completed in Uruguay in 1977. After a good reception of this first work, he returned to Paris and, between May and July 1978, recorded Para espantar el sueño in Normandy, an album that featured the collaboration of musicians such as percussionist Jorge Trasante and citar player Emmanuelle Parrenin.
