Caifanes

Caifanes is a Mexican band that has left a significant mark on Latin American alternative rock. Their sound is characterized by a fusion of influences ranging from post-punk to gothic rock, creating a unique atmosphere that captivates listeners. Formed initially as a quartet in 1987, the group consisted of Saúl Hernández (vocals and guitar), Sabo Romo (bass), Diego Herrera (keyboards and saxophone), and Alfonso André (drums). Their debut album, Caifanes, released in 1988, marked the beginning of their rise in the music scene, standing out for its innovative style and deep lyrics.

The band emerged from the Mexican underground scene, and their popularity grew thanks to the "Rock en tu idioma" campaign, which helped many regional bands reach a wider audience. Among their most recognized songs are «Afuera», «La célula que explota», and «Viento», which not only resonated in Mexico but also became classics of Hispanic-American rock. In 1989, Alejandro Marcovich joined the band as lead guitarist, adding a new nuance to their sound.

More about Caifanes

Biography

Throughout their career, Caifanes released albums such as Caifanes. Volumen II, also known as El diablito, and El silencio, both critically acclaimed. However, in 1993, the band faced significant changes with the departure of Romo and Herrera, leading to a restructuring and the release of their fourth album, El nervio del volcán. Internal tensions between Hernández and Marcovich culminated in the band's retirement in 1996, though Hernández and André continued their musical journey with the project Jaguares.

After several years, in 2011, Caifanes resurfaced as a quintet following a reconciliation with Marcovich. In 2018, they announced the release of a new single, «Heridos», which reached digital platforms in March 2019, marking their return to the music scene after a long period. The Caifanes Tour 2019 accompanied this new material, reaffirming their relevance in contemporary music. The evolution of Caifanes is a testament to their ability to adapt and continue connecting with their audience over the decades.
