About the album
Vorágine, according to DoReSol
The first single, Dónde vas (Viaje nocturno), dropped on August 24, 2011, to announce the shift in air. The album officially launched on September 20, and its presentation at the Teatro Gran Rex on December 7 —with sold-out tickets— served as a platform to record Samsara, the live DVD that would capture their return to the stage. But there are two songs that stand out for how they encapsulate that moment. Cae el Sol, released in August 2012 with a music video directed by Patricio Sardelli and Gabriel Grieco, became a radio hit and used its popularity to address an uncomfortable topic: human trafficking. The other is Bajos instintos, which closed the cycle in April 2013 with another video by the same directors, this time exploring the boundaries between instinct and control. Both songs, along with Cadenas, show how the album balanced catchy melodies with lyrics that didn’t shy away from the weight of reality.
The tour that followed the album was extensive: it kicked off in October 2011 with a free concert on Avenida Figueroa Alcorta in Buenos Aires and ended in June 2013 with two shows at the Teatro Vorterix. They played in Chile and Uruguay, but also shared the stage with bands like Calle 13 and Catupecu Machu in Argentina, and even opened for Noel Gallagher in Buenos Aires and Córdoba. That year and a half on the road not only promoted Vorágine, but also gave them material for Samsara, a CD+DVD that included the Gran Rex recording, a documentary about the album’s recording, and an extra track. The story behind all this, however, has a dark chapter: problems with their former manager left them unable to perform for a time, a halt that, paradoxically, led them to write more than they ultimately used. As Patricio Sardelli told Clarín in an interview, it was a period of lawyers and contracts that ultimately gave them the space to create.
