About the album
Romantic Warrior, according to DoReSol
The second side, however, picks up the pace: Majestic Dance by Al Di Meola takes electric guitars into rockier territory, while The Magician and Duel of the Jester and the Tyrant, Parts I & II blend dizzying solos with a steady groove. Stanley Clarke and Lenny White keep the foundation always active, with deep bass lines and percussion that weave through rhythms without losing the pulse. Even in Sorceress, the only composition by White, the group ensures the jazz-fusion doesn’t spiral out of control, thanks to that relentless rhythmic engine. The album cover, illustrated by Wilson McLean, reflects the blend of medieval and progressive elements found in the titles and music.
Corea and the others had listened to records by Rick Wakeman and bands like Yes, but instead of imitating their style, they adapted it to their own language: more jazz-infused in the melodies, more electric in the solos. The result was an album that cemented them as one of their most memorable lineups, both for their creativity and their live energy.
