Hombres G

When Hombres G entered the TRAK studios in January 1985, Madrid was covered in snow. Despite the conditions, they managed to record and mix their first album, also titled Hombres G, in just nine days. Another thirty days of preparation were needed to optimize time and budget, which at that moment was quite tight for the band. From the twenty-five songs they had been playing live, they selected ten for this work. Some of the more well-known songs today were saved for later. The recording started on January 7, dedicating the first two days to drums, followed by another two for bass and guitars. On the fifth day, keyboards and piano entered for Venezia. The guitars were finished and vocals began to be recorded on the sixth day. The final mixes were done in just two more days, leaving the album ready by January 17. It was released on March 11, 1985, after the launch of three singles: Devuélveme a mi chica, Venezia, and Dejad que las niñas se acerquen a mí.

About the album

Hombres G, according to DoReSol

This first album by Hombres G had an unexpected impact. By October 24, 1985, it had already been certified gold in Spain for selling over 50,000 copies, a figure that seemed unattainable at first. Over time, it surpassed 400,000 copies sold, a record for the time. For the band, this album was fundamental; it opened many doors and marked their first experience recording a complete album. Guest musicians included Pepe "El Víbora" with his tenor sax and Susana Aguilar on the backing vocals of Venezia. It is also noteworthy that Javi Molina, the drummer, sings as the lead voice in No te puedo besar and the operatic introduction of Venezia. Piti recorded all the bass lines, and in Sin ti, Dani Mezquita, the guitarist, took care of the bass. The American magazine Al Borde included it at number 98 on the list of the 250 best Ibero-American rock albums.
