The story behind
Venezia, according to DoReSol
The song Venezia stands out for its clever approach, as it was conceived as a parody of the typical Italian summer songs of the era. Although originally included on the B-side of the single Milagro en el Congo, its popularity surpassed that of the main track, becoming a favorite on radios and in the backpacks of young people who took it to the beach during the summer. The music and lyrics were written by David Summers, who is the vocalist and bassist of Hombres G, while the Italian sections were adapted by Lidia Iovane, a close friend of the band. The version we know today, with its memorable piano introduction and operatic vocals, was re-recorded and released as the third single in 1985.
This song not only marked a milestone in Hombres G's career but also became their first number one hit on Los 40 Principales on September 14, 1985. The recording of the album Hombres G, which includes this song, took place at the TRAK studios in Madrid in January 1985, during a snowstorm that complicated the process. Despite the difficulties, the band managed to record and mix the album in just nine days, after a month of preparations to optimize the time and resources available. The selection of the songs was a laborious process, choosing ten out of a total of twenty-five that they had been playing in concerts and clubs. Over time, Venezia has been covered by other artists, such as La Cabra Mecánica and Efecto Mariposa, which attests to its enduring appeal.
