Azzurro

"Azzurro" was released in May 1968, a single by Adriano Celentano that got stuck in a lot of people’s heads. The song is a simple pop tune, with lyrics that speak of a lonely summer in the city. Celentano’s voice carries a melody that sticks in your memory, with a touch of a military march in the middle—something that makes it sound a bit odd but interesting.

About the album

Azzurro, according to DoReSol

The song was written especially for him by Paolo Conte and Vito Pallavicini, two seasoned songwriters. The first line of the chorus goes: "Azzurro, il pomeriggio è troppo azzurro e lungo per me..." which in Italian doesn’t carry the same sad connotation that "blue" does in English. What it does have is a touch of nostalgia, for that summer that drags on too slowly.

The song became popular in many countries, including in Italian soccer, where the players sang it. It was also recorded by other artists, such as Mina and Fiorello. In 2023, a German producer named Wolfgang Lohr remade it in an electro-swing style, giving the original song a modern twist.
