Blink-182 gravou Adam’s Song em 1998, durante a produção do seu terceiro álbum. A música faz parte de Enema of the State, o primeiro disco da banda em uma gravadora internacional. Na época, o grupo já contava com o baterista Travis Barker, que havia substituído Scott Raynor um ano antes. A banda trabalhou com o produtor Jerry Finn, que havia estado atrás de Dookie de Green Day. A gravação de Enema of the State se estendeu por três meses, entre estúdios em San Diego e Los Angeles. Adam’s Song saiu em 1999, junto com outras músicas que marcaram o estilo da banda nesse período.
