The story behind

When we think of Disco Inferno, the title track from The Trammps' album, it's easy to imagine it playing on a dance floor. What's interesting is that this song, which became a resounding success, was originally released in clubs on December 29, 1976, just in time for New Year's celebrations. Mass distribution through Atlantic Records came a little later, in January 1977. The impact of this track was considerable, reaching number 9 on the *Hot Soul Singles* chart, number 11 on the *Billboard Hot 100*, and topping the *Hot Dance Club Play* chart.

The Trammps, formed in Philadelphia, stood out as one of the early groups in the disco scene. With vocalists like Jimmy Ellis, Harold Doc Wade, Stanley Wade, and Earl Young, their career began with a cover of Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart in 1972. Then, in 1973, they released Love Epidemic, marking their entry into the disco genre. While the album Disco Inferno performed well, reaching number 16 on the R&B album charts and number 46 on the *Billboard 200*, the title track was what truly resonated. The album also included I Feel Like I've Been Livin' (On the Dark Side of the Moon), which reached number 52 on the *Hot Soul Singles*. It's important to remember that Jimmy Ellis, one of the lead singers, passed away in March 2012 in North Carolina.
