The story behind

Starvin’, according to DoReSol

The song *Starvin’* by The Trammps is a piece that, with its seven minutes and twelve seconds of duration, invites listeners to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of soul and disco. Its arranger and producer, Norman Harris, shaped a sound that would become an emblem of an era. While the main focus of the album *Disco Inferno* lies in its eponymous track, *Starvin’* shares that vibrant energy and polished production that characterized the band. The Trammps, originally from Philadelphia, emerged as one of the pioneering groups of the disco genre. Their career began to take shape with hits like *Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart* in 1972 and *Love Epidemic* in 1973.

However, it was in 1976 that they released the album *Disco Inferno*, which debuted in clubs for New Year's celebrations and reached the general market in January 1977. This album reached number 16 on the R&B album charts and number 46 on the Billboard 200. The main track, *Disco Inferno*, resonated strongly, ranking ninth on Hot Soul Singles, eleventh on the Billboard Hot 100, and topping the Hot Dance Club Play chart. Another standout track from the album, *I Feel Like I've Been Livin' (On the Dark Side of the Moon)*, also found its place on the charts. The band continued to achieve success with tracks like *Hold Back the Night* and *That's Where the Happy People Go* in 1975, and *The Night the Lights Went Out* in 1977.

Lead vocalist, Jimmy Ellis, passed away in 2012 in North Carolina, leaving a musical legacy tied to the golden age of disco.
